Ashford named Baseball America Third-Team All-American

Fresno State Baseball senior outfielder Zach Ashford has been named a Third-Team All-American by Baseball America.
DURHAM, N.C. - Fresno State Baseball senior outfielder Zach Ashford has been named a Third-Team All-American by Baseball America, the organization announced on Monday.
The first Baseball America All-American since Jordan Luplow was named to the Second Team in 2014, Ashford put together a standout senior season at the both the plate and in the field.
A first-team All-Mountain West selection, Ashford ranked second in the MW and 29th nationally with a .381 average from the plate. The Clovis native led the MW with 67 runs scored and a .488 on-base percentage (23rd in the nation) while ranking second in hits (82) and third in walks (40).
Ashford appeared in 56 of the 'Dogs 57 games this spring making 54 starts and added 11 doubles, four triples and four home runs to go along with 21 RBI and a .526 slugging percentage. He led the team in stolen bases with 10 and had a stellar .989 fielding percentage only making one error in the field.
A four-year Bulldog, Ashford played in 214 games in his career, 10th-most in program history, and recorded a .347 average from the plate. Hitting over .300 in all four seasons, Ashford tallied 245 hits to finish with the ninth-most hits in a career. His 11 career triples are tied for sixth-most in a career.
Ashford is the seventh Bulldog outfielder to be named a Baseball America All-American joining Terry Pendleton (3rd, 1982), Steve Hosey (3rd, 1988), Tom Goodwin (1st, 1988 & 1st, 1989), Richie Robnett (2nd, 2004), Dusty Robinson (3rd, 2011) and Luplow (2nd, 2014).
Ashford becomes the fourth Bulldog to earn All-American honors this season joining Ryan Jensen (2nd Team), McCarthy Tatum (3rd) and Jaime Arias (3rd) who were named Collegiate Baseball Newspaper All-Amercians on May 30.
