Jensen selected 27th overall by the Chicago Cubs in the 2019 MLB Draft

Fresno State junior right-handed pitcher Ryan Jensen was selected in the first round of the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Chicago Cubs on Monday evening.
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State junior right-handed pitcher Ryan Jensen was selected in the first round of the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Monday evening with the 27th overall selection by the Chicago Cubs.
Jensen extends Fresno State's streak of players drafted into major league baseball at 43 consecutive years as the last time the 'Dogs did not have a player drafted was 1976.
The 2019 Mountain West Pitcher of the Year and MW Championship Tournament MVP, Jensen becomes the sixth first-round selection under Coach Batesole joining Richie Robnett (2004), Garza (2005), Tanner Scheppers (2009), Aaron Judge (2013) and Taylor Ward (2015) and is the third pitcher joining Garza and Scheppers.
He is the highest-drafted Diamond 'Dog taken since Ward went 26th overall in 2015 by the Los Angeles Angels.
Jensen has put together a stellar junior season on the mound for the 'Dogs posting a 12-1 mark making 16 appearances, including 15 starts. Entering Monday, the Salinas, Calif., native is one of two pitchers in the nation with 12 wins joining Drake Fellows of Vanderbilt. Winning his last nine starts in a row, Jensen leads the Mountain West with 100.0 innings pitched and ranks second in the league in strikeouts with 107. He is fourth in the MW in opposing batting average (.217) and fifth in ERA (2.88).
Jensen has been outstanding over the last two-plus months of the season going 9-0 with a 2.32 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 66.0 innings while only allowing 14 walks. He has tallied eight consecutive starts of seven or more innings and has six starts with eight or more strikeouts.
He most recently got the 'Dogs off to a great start in the Stanford Regional on May 31 tossing 7.2 innings limiting the Gauchos to four hits, two earned runs, one walk with eight strikeouts as the Bulldogs face top-seed Stanford in the regional final on Monday evening.
A three-year Bulldog, Jensen has tallied 17 wins and 208 strikeouts in 211.0 innings pitched. He has posted 18 career starts with five-plus strikeouts and also has 18 career starts of six innings or more. He has allowed two or fewer earned runs in 17 career starts.
