'Dogs prepare for Cal Cup

BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 13 Fresno State women's water polo team will travel to compete in the Cal Cup on Jan 25-26, at the Legends Aquatic Center. The 'Dogs will face four teams all ranked within the Top 20.

SCHEDULE - The 'Dogs will start the weekend against No. 18 San Jose State on Saturday at 8:30 a.m., followed by a match against No. 2 Stanford at 4 p.m.. On Sunday, the Bulldogs will face No. 10 UC Davis at 9:45 a.m. and No. 5 UC Irvine at 1 p.m. to finish the weekend.

HOW TO FOLLOW – Live stats will be available at TheFosh.net for all games except Fresno State's game against No. 18 SJSU on Saturday. There are no live stats available in the Bulldogs' game versus the Spartans.Â

2020 GCC PRESEASON POLL
The eight Golden Coast Conference women's water polo head coaches voted Pacific at the head of the conference to win the regular season title. In its third season of competition, Fresno State was picked to finish third. The poll chose Pacific (49 points, 7 first place votes), Loyola Marymount (42 points, 1 first place vote), and Fresno State (38 points) at the top of the conference. San Diego State (31 points) and Azusa Pacific (24 points) were tabbed to finish in the middle of the pack. California Baptist (20 points), Santa Clara (11 points), and Concordia - Irvine (9 points) received the last three spots to conclude the preseason rankings.

RANKED WINS
Fresno State has defeated two ranked teams this season. No. 13 Fresno State knocked off No. 22 Marist College 9-5 on Jan 18. The following day, the 'Dogs upset No. 12 LMU 8-6 on Jan 19 in an exhibition game.

The Bulldogs return 14 letterwinners including three All-GCC selections in Emily Nicholson, Callie Woodruff and Daphne Guevremont. Six freshmen were also welcomed to the roster for the upcoming season. The 'Dogs were picked to finish third in the Golden Coast Conference standings in the 2020 Preseason Coaches' Poll.

In the 2019 season, the Bulldogs completed their second competition season with a 14-15 overall record (4-3 GCC), finishing in fourth place in the regular season conference. The 'Dogs went on to clinch third place in the Golden Coast Conference Championships.Â

- Stanford owns the all-time record against Fresno State 2-0. The last time the two teams faced each other, Fresno State was downed by Stanford 23-7 on January 27, 2019.
