Bulldogs earn 11-8 Senior Day win against No. 3 SMU

FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 5 Fresno State equestrian team handed No. 3 SMU its first loss of the spring season in a 11-8 drubbing at the Student Horse Center on Friday afternoon. Fresno State improves to 8-5 on the season with a 6-3 record at home.

Despite the win, sophomore Jumping Seat rider Alivia Hart earned the only MOP honor for the Bulldogs in the meet with an 86-73 ride against Vivian Yowan.

How it happened
The Bulldogs and Mustangs faced off first in the Flat as SMU got out to an early 3-2 lead after the event. Senior Erica Rosinski scored a 72 to earn her point over Haley Zimmerman. Freshman Annastasia Anstead had her third-highest score of the season in a 83-81 win against Yowan in the Flat to round out scoring for the Bulldogs.Â

The Bulldogs kicked it into gear in the Fences, only surrendering one point to take the lead in the meet. Freshman Ana Bertozzi won her point on a 84-81 ride to tie the meet. Sophomore Cecily Hayes defeated her SMU opponent 75-64 to win the next point for the Bulldogs, and Rosinski stayed perfect on the day with an 83-80 ride against Devin Seek in the next draw. Hart picked up her fifth consecutive Fences point with her 86 to tie her career-high score.

After the Jumping Seat competitions, Fresno State had a 6-4 lead and it would keep its lead for the remainder for the meet as it outscored SMU 5-4 in the Western rides.

SMU earned the win in Horsemanship, 3-2. Fresno State picked up a pair of points by Hannah Buijs and Nicole Campbell who both scored 74.5 in their Horsemanship rides. Sophomore Kameron Thorn had her third-highest Horsemanship score of the season but was edged by Lily Anderson, 77-76.

In the Reining, Fresno State won 3-1 with a tying ride from Julianne Kelley in a 71.5 ride. Freshman Bailey Alexander became the first Bulldog to reach double digit wins in the Reining this season with a 71.5-70.5 ride against her SMU opponent. Senior Shea Gilson picked up her point in her final home ride as a Bulldog with a 71 on Tito. Sophomore Lexee Padrick earned her fourth point of the spring with a 69.5-59 point.
