Lloren & Wright named NWCA Scholar All-Americans

The first two Bulldogs to earn this honor since the reinstatement of the program in 2017-18, redshirt junior DJ Lloren and redshirt sophomore Jacob Wright were two of 175 individuals who represented 63 Division I institutions to earn NWCA Scholar All-American honors.
To be eligible for NWCA Scholar All-American honors, student-athletes must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA and be a 2020 NCAA Championships qualifier OR must have a 3.2 cumulative GPA and won 60 percent of total matches while competing in at least 60 percent of the team's schedule.

"NCAA Division I institutions continue to demonstrate their commitment to academics."
Lloren, a fourth-year junior from Clovis, earned an At-Large berth to the 2020 NCAA Championships at 141 pounds before they were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic compiling a 22-7 overall record during the season.
A communication major with a 3.21 GPA, Lloren was named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team and tallied nine bonus point wins.
Wright, a third-year sophomore from Dinuba, placed fifth at 157 pounds at the 2020 Big 12 Championship to earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships and posted a 24-9 overall record on the season.
A criminology-forensic behavioral science major with a 3.59 GPA, Wright was also named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team and earned eight bonus point wins.
The National Wrestling Coaches Association, established in 1928, is a non-profit organization for the advancement of all levels of the sport of wrestling with primary emphasis on developing coaches who work in academic environments. The three core competencies of the NWCA are: Coaching Development, Student-Athlete Welfare, and the Promotion of Wrestling.
