Arias signs undrafted free agent deal with Indians

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State Baseball junior left-handed pitcher Jaime Arias signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.
A three-year Bulldog out of Woodland, Calif., Arias made four starts on the mound for the Diamond 'Dogs in the COVID-19 shortened season as a junior in 2020. He went 2-1 with a 3.75 ERA and ranked second in the Mountain West in innings pitched (24.0) and eighth in strikeouts (22). He also led the MW in walks allowed per nine innings (1.13) only allowing three walks on the season and his 7.33 strikeout-to-walk ratio ranked second in the MW. He earned wins in the 'Dogs season opener against UC Irvine on Feb. 14 and tossed a career-high 7.0 innings and struck out a career-best 12 in a 9-1 win over Columbia on Feb. 28.
His first two seasons at Fresno State saw Arias earn six wins while appearing in 51 games and making 10 starts. After tossing 68.1 innings and striking out 62 in 23 appearances as a freshman in 2018, Arias earned Freshman All-American honors by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
He followed that up as a sophomore in 2019 with Third-Team All-American honors by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper while also earning First-Team All-Mountain West honors. Arias appeared in 28 games, totaled a 3.28 ERA, tossed 46.2 innings and struck out 59 while converting 12 saves to tie for the second-most saves in a single season in program history.
Arias finishes his Fresno State career with 13 career saves which is tied for fourth-most in program history, eight wins, 55 appearances, 14 starts, 143 strikeouts and 139.0 innings pitched.
