GAME INFO
BULLDOG BONES
- Fresno State Athletics is celebrating its centennial year and the 2021 football season is the 100th season of competition in program history.
- This is the 11th season* of the "Battle for the Old Oil Can" Trophy, given to the winning team in the rivalry series between San Diego State and Fresno State.Â
- Since the Mountain West implemented divisions and a conference championship game in 2013, the winner of the Bulldogs-Aztecs game has gone on to represent the West division in the title game six-of-seven times. The 2020 championship game was the first time since 2013 that neither San Diego State or Fresno State was the West Division representative, rather it was San Jose State, who went on to claim the title.Â
- Fresno State will face its third ranked opponent of the season as it travels to No. 21 San Diego State on Saturday.Â
- With a win last Saturday, Fresno State became bowl eligible for the first time since 2018.Â
- Fresno State senior running back Jordan Mims had a career-high game, leading the Fresno State offense to its 34-32 win over Nevada last Saturday at Bulldog Stadium. For his efforts, the Mountain West named him the conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.Â
- Jordan Mims has another honor rolling in as The Paul Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse, selected Mims to its weekly honor roll for week eight.Â
- Fresno State's 2021 team captains are quarterback Jake Haener, running back Ronnie Rivers, defensive end David Perales and linebacker Tyson Maeva.Â
- Whether it be transfers or true freshmen, Fresno State has seen a handful of fresh faces see their first taste of Bulldog game action through the first seven games this season. Twenty four first-year 'Dogs have played in at least one game on the year.
- The Bulldogs have made quick work on the offensive scoring drives, having nine touchdown scoring drives this season that have been scored in less than 1:00.
- Senior running back Ronnie Rivers became the program's all-time leading touchdown scorer with touchdown No. 45 of his career against UConn on Aug. 28.
- Last time out, Rivers tied the program record for most career rushing touchdowns with his 64-yard touchdown run against Nevada. The senior Bulldog is tied atop the record books with Ryan Mathews (39, 2007-09).
- The Bulldogs lead the FBS in total tackles for loss (64.0) and are averaging 8.0 TFL per game this season, enough for second in the FBS.Â
- Fresno State is No. 3 in the FBS in fumbles recovered this season (9). The Bulldogs have recovered at least one fumble in each game on the year, with a season-best two at then-No. 13 UCLA. Fresno State has recovered at least one fumble in 13 of its last 14 games dating back to the 2020 season opener against Hawai'i.Â
