Fresno State tops Cal Poly 5-2

FRESNO, Calif. — Fresno State finished its opening weekend with two home wins at Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center after defeating Cal Poly on Sunday afternoon, 5-2.
"It's good to get the nerves out of the way this weekend and play two really tough teams," said Fresno State head coach Luke Shields. "I was really proud of the guys to get off on the right foot. I'm really proud of Angus [Bradshaw], Zdenek [Derkas], and Henrique [Osorio], they've been bringing it in practice and that shows in the matches."
How It Happened
Doubles
The 'Dogs earned their first point of the match by sweeping Cal Poly in doubles play. The pairing of Angus Bradshaw and Aleksandr Myagkov won the first match 6-0, with Alexey Aleschev and Henrique Osorio sealing their victory soon after (6-2).
Singles
Fresno State opened singles play with a win coming at the No. 1 spot from Zdenek Derkas (6-2, 6-0). However Cal Poly won two straight-sets at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions even the match score at 2-2.
Bradshaw gave the 'Dogs the lead again after winning at the No. 4 spot (6-4, 6-2), and the game was clinched with a No. 5 spot victory from Osorio (7-5, 6-2). The final matchup at the No. 6 spot resulted in a win for freshman Aleksandr Myagkov (6-1, 6-7, 1-0 (10-5)).
