'Dogs surge to take series finale at Nevada

RENO, Nev. - The Diamond 'Dogs exploded for six runs in the third inning on their way to a 8-3 win over Nevada on Sunday at Peccole Park.
Fresno State (6-8, 4-5 MW) took the series finale behind seven hits on offense and a solid starting pitching performance from sophomore southpaw Jake Dixon.
The Sanger High product earned his second win of the season tossing five innings while limiting Nevada (6-8, 3-3 MW) to three hits, one earned run and struck out three.
Four relief pitcher came in to work the final four innings with Kyle Pruhsmeier retiring all five batters he face while throwing 1.2 innings and Robbie Peters and Nik Caridinal threw a shutout eighth and ninth inning, respectively.
Six Diamond 'Dogs had hits in the game with Ryan Higgins being the lone 'Dog with multiple hits finishing with a single, double, two RBIs and scored a run.
Sophomore infielder Andrew Kachel hit his first career triple and scored a run.
How It Happened
The Bulldogs got off to a strong start with a two-run top of the first capitalizing on a pair of walks to start the inning as Higgins smacked his second double of the season to left-center to score a pair for a quick 2-0 lead.
The 'Dogs broke the game open with a six-run top of the third getting the run scoring started with an RBI single by Dylan Johnson followed by a sacrifice fly by Nate Thimjon.
A bases-loaded walk to Josh Lauck allowed Higgins to scored for a 5-0 lead and a two-run RBI single to center by freshman Ben Newton drove home two more before the scoring was finished with an RBI single through the right side by EJ Andrews, Jr. that scored Lauck.
The Wolf Pack broke up the shutout with a run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Joshua Zamora, but Dixon allowed only one more hit before exiting after the fifth.
Nevada tacked on two more runs in the sixth, but Pruhsmeier escaped a two on, one-out situation allowing only one run to score as the Wolf Pack were held to one hit the remainder of the game.
