FRESNO, Calif. - The Diamond 'Dogs get Mountain West play started at San Diego State on Saturday.

A look at the San Diego State Aztecs
The Aztecs are 5-2 to start the season after taking three of four games against UC San Diego and won two of three versus San Diego on opening weekend.
The Mountain West preseason favorites rank third in the nation in batting average (.352) and scoring (11.1 runs per game) while leading the conference in doubles (15), walks (23), hits (101), on-base percentage (.408), runs (78) and strikeouts per nine innings (8.7).
Starting pitchers Michael Paredes and Troy Melton have combined for 20.1 innings and 17 strikeouts while 15 other pitchers have also seen time on the mound.
Jaden Fein, who has earned both MW Player of the Week honors this season, is hitting .529 with 18 hits, 14 RBIs and 10 runs while slugging .706. Brian Leonhardt is right behind him hitting .433 with 13 hits in 30 at-bats.

Fresno State won its 13th consecutive season opener as well as its 13th straight home opener on Feb. 26 with a 13-2 win over CSU Bakersfield. It was the most runs the Bulldogs have scored in a season opener since 1987 when they scored 14 runs in a win over Cal.
Presno back at it
Preseason All-MW selection Zach Presno has picked up where he left off in 2020 through the first four games with a pair of home runs, a double, three RBIs and five runs scored.
Standout starts
The Bulldogs got a pair of standout starts from Jamison Hill and Jake Dixon on opening weekend.
Hill allowed one earned run and six hits while striking out six and Dixon followed up action on Saturday with six shutout innings limiting CSUB to four hits, all singles, no runs while striking out four.
Miami to Fresno
Newcomer Josh Lauck, a transfer from Miami, has started all four games second base is hitting .500 with six hits, three doubles, three RBI, seven runs scored, four walks and three stolen bases.
