No. 5 Bulldogs defeat No. 2 TCU by raw score

DALLAS - The No. 5 Fresno State equestrian team opened a busy weekend in Texas with a big raw score win against No. 2 TCU. The teams tied 8-8, but the Bulldogs came out on top with a tiebreaking raw score win of 1174-1072.5 on a neutral site.

A pair of Bulldogs earned Most Outstanding Performer honors in the win over the Horned Frogs. Cecily Hayes earned the flat MOP and Bailey Alexander picked up the reining honor.

Friday's win represents the 10th win all-time against TCU, and the first neutral site win against the program since 2009. The Bulldogs have now won back-to-back meets against TCU for the first time since the first two meetings between the programs.
"I am very proud of this team," said head coach Eric Hubbard. "Today we proved that it is not over until it is over. We didn't throw in the towel when it was all on the line. TCU is a tough team and they came well-prepared.We have a lot of things yet to improve on, but we will take the win and focus on SMU tomorrow."

How it Happened
TCU opened the meet with a 4-0 sweep in the fences and followed that performance with a 3-1 advantage in the horsemanship event to take a 7-1 lead into the break. The Bulldogs' lone horsemanship point was earned by Emily Maul in a 74.5-73.5 victory. Maul tied her career-high score on Friday.

Fresno State had its best performance in the flat of the season, taking the event 3-1. The Bulldogs earned points from Ana Bertozzi, Sara Tuck and Hayes. Bertozzi remains undefeated in the flat on the year after a 79-74 win over her TCU opponent. Hayes earned her first flat point of the season with a season-best 87 to defeat her opponent's 70. Tuck earned the final point in the event with a career-high 84.

After the first three events, Fresno State trailed 8-4.

In the reining, Julianne Kelley secured the first point of the event with a 69-68 win and Alexander followed with another point for the 'Dogs in a season-best 70.5 ride. The reining points continued as Paley Capachi earned her third point of the season with a narrow 69-68.5 win. Lexee Padrick had the last reining ride of the event, and had to beat her opponent's zero score. She rode for a season-best mark of a 72.
