On the pitching side, right-hander Oscar Carvajal made his second start of the season going a season-high four innings limiting the Trojans to four hits, one run, one walk and struck out four.
Freshman left-hander Ixan Henderson went two innings allowing two hits, one unearned run and struck out three. Kyle Pruhsmeier and Alex Kendrick combined to finish out the final two innings holding USC to two hits. Â
How It Happened
A quick first three innings saw each side limited to two hits before Southern Cal got on the scoreboard in the fourth using a leadoff triple by Tyreese Turner and came into score after a fielding error by the Bulldogs at second base.
USC increased its lead to 2-0 in the fifth again capitalizing on a Bulldog error to score to take a two-run lead.
The 'Dogs threatened to get on the scoreboard in the seventh as Higgins got on base with a one-out single, Andrew Kachel and Mason Grotto each walked to load the bases before Nate Thimjon bounced into an inning-ending double play.
The Bulldogs finally broke through in the eighth cutting the Trojans' lead in half as Zach Presno came in to score on Andrews, Jr.'s RBI single.
With runners at first and second with two down, the 'Dogs loaded the bases after Higgins reached base on a USC error. With Kachel looking to give the 'Dogs the lead, he flew out to center field as the 'Dogs went down in order in the ninth.
