Top-seeded Fresno State to open postseason at GCC Championship Tournament

No. 11 Fresno State earned the No. 1 seed in the four-team 2021 GCC Women's Championships April 23-24. As the No. 1 seed, Fresno State will open the tournament against No. 4 Cal Baptist on Friday, April 23 at 3 p.m. PT.

BULLDOG BITES
This year's GCC Championship is a four-team field with the top four teams earning a bid to this year's field. Fresno State, San Diego State and Pacific all finished the 2021 conference race at 6-1 and share the regular season championship. All three punched their ticket. The fourth-place spot was also a three-way tie between California Baptist, Azusa Pacific and LMU at 3-4.Â
All four seeds went deep into the tiebreaker rules, with it being settled by goal differential in games played against the teams tied.
Fresno State earns the top spot with a goal differential of +2 against Pacific and San Diego State. The Aztecs take the No. 2 seed (even) and Pacific the No. 3 seed (-2). As for the fourth seed, CBU had a goal differential of +5, while Azusa Pacific was at -2 and LMU at -3.Â

HISTORY AT GCC CHAMPIONSHIP
Fresno State is 3-3 in GCC Tournament games. The Bulldogs finished sixth in 2018 and recorded a program-high third-place finish in 2019.
Fresno State is 0-1 in GCC Tournament games against California Baptist. The Lancers defeated the Bulldogs 13-10 (OT) in the fifth-place game in 2018.
This is the first time in program history that the Bulldogs have secured the top seed in the tournament.

FIVE BULLDOGS EARN ALL-GCC HONORS
The No. 11 Fresno State water polo team had five players earn Golden Coast Conference accolades. The Bulldogs tabbed two first team, one second team and two freshman team All-GCC selections. Five is the most honorees that Fresno State has earned in program history.
Daphne Guevremont and Emily Nicholson were named All-GCC First Team honorees. Callie Woodruff earned an All-GCC Second Team nod. Kaitlin Howarth and Cynthia Rosa rounded out the Bulldogs' postseason awards, Howarth was named a GCC All-Freshman First Team selection while Rosa tallied All-Freshman Second Team honors.

Fresno State leads the all-time series against CBU 3-1. Earlier this season, the Bulldogs defeated the Lancers 22-13 (March 6).
