'Dogs stymied at Air Force

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Committing its most turnovers since 2017, Fresno State suffered its second loss of the conference season, 66-57 at Air Force on Wednesday night. The 'Dogs were outscored 22-9 off turnovers.
Haley Cavinder recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Wytalla Motta posted her second in the last four games with 10 points and 10 boards. Riley Snyder (21) and Cierra Winters (15) combined for 36 points for the Falcons with 18 of those coming from the free throw line.
Fresno State was outscored by 15 at the free throw line (21-6), 13 off turnovers (22-9) and 18 on fast breaks (18-0).
How It Happened
With little separation in the opening 20 minutes Air Force continued its high-pressure defense in the second, forcing four turnovers in the opening minutes of the third to build its lead up to 40-33 less than three minutes into the quarter. The Falcons led by as much as eight in the period, aided by eight Bulldog turnovers.
The 'Dogs got the deficit back to six heading into the fourth following a layup from Jessica Peterson at the buzzer. Five quick points from Hanna Cavinder pulled Fresno State back within one 49 seconds in the final quarter. Just over a minute later, Haley Cavinder got to the line and gave the Bulldogs their first lead in more than 15 minutes. It was short-lived as the Falcons answered back with five straight.
Fresno State could only get as close as two the remainder of the game as Air Force went 14-of-16 at the free throw line during the final four minutes.

Fresno State remains on the road, heading to Albuquerque, N. M. on Saturday. Tipoff against the Lobos (15-4, 6-0 MW) is set for 1 p.m. PT at The Pit.

- Fresno State lost its first game of the season when outshooting its opponent (40.4-34.5). The 'Dogs were previously 6-0.
- The Bulldogs dropped the second game of the year when outrebounding their opponent (39-33). Fresno State was 4-1 entering the game.
- Fresno State's 22 turnovers was its most since the opening round of the 2017 Mountain West Tournament against Nevada.
- Fresno State attempted seven free throws, its second-lowest total of the season. The last time the Bulldogs had at least 17 less free throw attempts than their opponent was on Feb. 25, 2021 versus UNLV (23-6).
- Haley Cavinder posted her league-leading eighth double-double of the season. It was the 18th of her career.
- Haley notched her ninth 20-point game in 16 games this year.
- Wytalla Motta recorded her second double-double since Dec. 31. It was the third of her career.
- Jessica Peterson scored a season-high four points in five minutes.
