'Dogs edged out by Wolf Pack

FRESNO, Calif. – For the second time in three days the Fresno State women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought game at home against a team sitting in the top four in the conference standings. Overtaken in the final minutes by Nevada, the Bulldogs fell 72-68 on Monday night at the Save Mart Center.
The 'Dogs got a combined 37 points from Haley Cavinder (18) and Hanna Cavinder (19). Wytalla Motta added 14 points 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double in conference play. Nevada had four players in double figures including getting a team-high 16 points from De'Ja Hamilton and Amaya West.
How It Happened
After Nevada grabbed its first lead of the game to open the second quarter, the Bulldogs proceeded to connect on their next eight shots, turning a two-point deficit into an 11-point lead through an 18-5 run in just over four minutes. The Wolf Pack though cut its deficit six to close the half, hitting its final four shots.
Fresno State held onto the lead midway through the fourth but following a bucket from Haley that gave the 'Dogs a 64-61 lead, Nevada's De'Ja Hamilton sank a 3-pointer to level the game with 5:03 remaining. The Wolf Pack finished the game 5-of-6 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line while Fresno State was 2-of-7 and 4-of-4. The result was a 17-10 Nevada advantage for Nevada during the final five-plus minutes.
Team Notes
Fresno State takes to the road for the next two, first heading to conference leader UNLV on Wednesday. Tipoff from Cox Pavilion is set for 6:30 p.m. PT.

- The second-best free throw shooting team in the Mountain West, Fresno State shot a season-low 57.1 percent (12-of-21).
- The Bulldogs dropped to 1-4 in conference play when being outrebounded (38-34).
- Haley Cavinder became the seventh player in Fresno State program history to eclipse 1,500 career points.
- With 19 points, Hanna Cavinder recorded her 19th double figure scoring game of the year and 73rd of her career.
- Wytalla Motta posted her sixth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
