'Dogs fall to Baylor in consolation

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Fresno State equestrian team fell 12-6 to Baylor in the consolation round of the Big 12 Championship, hosted at Diamond Creek Ranch this weekend. The Bulldogs finished in fourth place of the championship tournament.

Baylor got out to a quick start, outscoring Fresno State 6-2 in the first two events. The 'Dogs earned a point in the fences on a 175-164 ride by Ana Bertozzi. Emily Maul won the Bulldog point in the horsemanship on a 152.5-0 showing. Hannah Buijs tied in her ride with a 149.

Fresno State won two points in each the flat and reining. In the flat, it was Sara Tuck and Cecily Hayes who earned the points for the 'Dogs. Tuck scored a 165 to her opponent's 160.5 while Hayes won her point on a 173-170 ride.

In the reining, Bailey Alexander and Julianne Kelley secured points with a tie by Lexee Padrick. Alexander picked up win number 11 of the season with a 145.5-144.5 ride. Kelley won her point with a 145 to her opponent's 0.

Alexander and Kelley were a perfect 2-0 on their rides this weekend. In the jumping seat, Bertozzi (fences) and Tuck (flat) were also undefeated in their rides at the Big 12 Championship.

Fresno State will head to Ocala, Fla. for the 2022 national championship, this season hosted at the World Equestrian Center on April 14-16. Information on seedings will be announced soon.
