Utah is 8-2-1 on the season winning three of four games over the weekend at CSU Bakersfield and has wins this season over the 'Dogs, San Diego State and UNLV.
The Utes, who were picked 11th in the Pac-12 preseason poll, are hitting .275 as a team while averaging 6.3 runs per game and has four starters hitting over .300 from the plate. Hawaii transfer Alex Baeza is hitting .356 while leading the club in hits (16), doubles (5) and total bases (24).
On the pitching side, Utah has a 4.02 team ERA and a 2.40 strikeout-to-walk ratio with 101 strikeouts and 42 walks while holding opponents to a .242 average.
A look at the San Francisco Dons
The Dons are off to a 9-4 start to 2022 after a four-game sweep at home over St. John's over the weekend where they outscored the Red Storm, 39-15.
USF, selected fourth in the WCC preseason coaches poll, is 8-3 at home with an additional three wins over Utah Valley and an opening weekend win over UCSB.
The Dons are hitting .242 as a team while averaging 6.2 runs per game. Gabe Glosso is leading the Dons with a .344 average and shortstop Luke Keaschall has started all 13 games leading the team with 16 hits and has a team-leading 12 runs.
As a pitching staff, USF has a 4.08 team ERA, sixth in the WCC, while averaging 8.4 strikeouts per game and holding opponents to a .249 average.
Henderson tabbed MW Pitcher of the Week
For the second time in three weeks, Ixan Henderson has been tabbed the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week. He tossed a career-high six innings on Saturday in the 'Dogs 1-0 win over Portland striking out nine and limited the Pilots to three singles and three walks on the evening.
