FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State women's head basketball coach Jaime White announced a pair of additions to its 2022-23 roster on the first day of college basketball's spring signing period. Internationals Thea Mikkelsen (Denmark) and Alannah Chatfield (Australia) join Franka Wittenberg (Germany) who signed during the early period.
Mikkelsen joins Fresno State from Long Beach State where she spent her freshman season. The 5-foot-9 point guard from Roskilde, Denmark came to the States after shining in the Danish national program. Mikkelsen helped Denmark's U16 team to a European Championship and followed with a runner-up finish with the U18 team. She led her club team Dameligaen to a third-place finish during the 2019-20 season. Mikkelsen was awarded MVP of Danish Cup Finals in 2018 (U17) and 2019 (U19). She was also a 2019 Scania Cup All-Star at the Nordic Championships.
"Thea comes to us as a transfer student who excelled at the point guard position for the Danish national team," White said. "Her 5-foot-9 frame brings length and speed to the defensive end. She is vocal, has a great basketball IQ and is an excellent shooter and passer. Thea is a traditional point guard and we are excited she's a Bulldog."
Chatfield is the second incoming freshman to join Fresno State this year. A product of Melbourne, Australia, the 5-foot-8 combo guard has been a member of the NBL1's Knox Raiders and Dandenong Rangers. In 2019, she was a part of the WNBL's Melbourne Boomers development squad. In 2019, Chatfield led Victoria Metro U18s to an Australian juniors championship. That year, she was also named MVP for the Knox Raiders U18s, leading them to a Victorian championship. Chatfield was a member of the junior Australia team where the country's top 30 athletes are invited to attend development camps and are included for selection opportunities to FIBA world championship competitions.
"Alannah had a highly decorated junior career, having been a member of the Victorian Metro team which won gold at the Australian Junior Championships where she was a starter and major scorer," White said. "She is a court leader who is highly coachable, has a knock down 3 and great basketball IQ. Alannah will continue the tradition of Bulldog talent from Australia."
