FRESNO, Calif. - The Diamond 'Dogs brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but dropped the series finale to San Diego State, 8-5 on Mike Batesole Day on Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

Fresno State (22-22, 11-10 MW) scored five runs over the final four innings with Josh Lauck coming to the plate with a pair of 'Dogs on base and two outs, but a dribbler back to the mound ended the comeback rally.

The 'Dogs totaled eight hits on the afternoon with Blake Wink and Payton Allen each tallying two hits apiece. Wink drove in a run and scored a pair while Allen added a double and three RBIs.

On the mound, Jake Dixon made his 12th start of the season going four innings before giving way to two scoreless innings from Tommy Hopfe, one shutout frame from Roman Angelo with the final two innings coming from Cooper Bergman.

How It Happened
The Aztecs raced out to a 4-0 lead after four innings getting three runs in the third and added an unearned run in the fourth capitalizing on a Bulldog throwing error.

Held to two hits through the first five innings, the 'Dogs found their offense in the sixth trimming SDSU's lead to 4-3 getting started with a sacrifice fly by Lauck, a fielder's choice from Wink that scored Vinny Bologna and an RBI single by Allen.

Heading to the eighth continuing to trail by one, the Aztecs tacked on four runs with two outs to extend their lead to 8-3.

The 'Dogs answered back with Allen's two-out, two-run RBI double to right to cut the deficit to three. A pair of singles in the ninth put two on base, but a flyout by Ivan Luna and Lauck's groundout ended the 'Dogs rally.
