'Dogs fall in 11 innings in opener

A two-out RBI single up the middle by the Rebels in the 11th inning turned out to the difference as Fresno State (24-26, 12-13 MW) jumped out to an 8-4 lead through seven innings, but five late runs for UNLV proved costly.
The Bulldogs totaled 16 hits on the night with base knocks from 11 different 'Dogs.
Zach Morgan led the way with three hits that included a three-run home run while Andrew Kachel, Ivan Luna and Vinny Bologna all added two hits apiece. Kachel tallied his fifth triple of the season and Josh Lauck tacked on a two-run homer.
On the pitching side, Ixan Henderson tossed 5.1 innings allowing four runs, two earned and struck out six before Trevor Garcia took over for 1.2 innings.
Roman Angelo went the next 3.2 innings for his longest outing since April 16 striking out a season-high seven with Robbie Peters getting the final out of the 11th.
How It Happened
The Bulldogs got the scoring started in the bottom of the second with Lauck's 11th long ball of the season that left the yard in a hurry.
The Rebels answered back with a two-run third inning and added two more in the fifth for a 4-2 lead.
The 'Dogs responded a four-run bottom of the frame as Morgan drilled a three-run shot to left and Bologna came off the bench with an RBI single to put the 'Dogs up 6-4.
Two more runs came across for the Bulldogs in the seventh that extended their lead to 8-4, but the Rebels answered back with four runs of their own to tie the game in the eighth as a bases-clearing triple down the right field line proved costly.
A scoreless ninth pushed the game to extra innings for the third time this season and after a stalemate in the 10th, the Rebels got the game-winning base hit from Gianni Horvat in the 11th for a one-run lead.
The 'Dogs mounted a rally in their final at-bat with singles from Kachel and Morgan that put the winning run on base, but a strikeout and runner's interference by Kachel ended the rally.
