Cierra Jackson becomes first Bulldog freshman to qualify for NCAA Championships in the discus since 1984.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – With one athlete remaining for Fresno State at the NCAA West Preliminary Round, Cierra Jackson wasted little time in punching her ticket to the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. On her first throw in the discus, the redshirt freshman landed a mark of 57.16m/187-6 to put her in fourth overall. That is where she would finish the afternoon.
Throwing last in the final flight, Jackson sat and watched three competitors in her flight throw beyond the 57 meters in the first round. All three were seniors. Jackson then let her second-best throw of the season fly to put herself solidly in contention for one of 12 qualifying spots.
The women's discus will be contested at the NCAA Championships on June 11 at 2:05 p.m. PT at Hayward Field.
