Jackson to step on national stage

FRESNO, Calif. – With the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships underway at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, Fresno State's Cierra Jackson will take to the throwing ring on Saturday afternoon (2:05 p.m. PT). The redshirt freshman from Chandler, Arizona enters this weekend No. 7 in the NCAA in the discus and recorded the sixth-farthest throw during last month's NCAA Preliminary Round.
The discus will be one of three remaining field events to be contested on the final day of the championships.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT CIERRA JACKSON'S 2022
- Landed a personal best of 58.57m/192-2 at the Fresno State Invitational on April 30, a mark that ranks third on Fresno State's all-time list.
- First Bulldog freshman to qualify in the discus since Lacy Barnes in 1984 after landing a throw of 57.16m/187-6 to place fourth at the NCAA West Preliminary Round on May 28.
- Third Bulldog to reach nationals in the discus in the last 25 years, and first since Kayla Hopkins earned Second Team All-America honors (11th) in 2017.
- First Bulldog in the last 30 years to record multiple throws over 57 meters in a season.
- Of the 12 qualifiers in this discus from this year's west region, five were seniors. Jackson was the only freshman.
- One of only two freshmen qualifiers (24 overall) for the championships in the women's discus.
- Holds four Top 5 all-time marks at Fresno State: discus (No. 3), outdoor shot put (No. 4), indoor shot put (No. 5), weight throw (No. 4).
- All-Mountain West in weight throw (second place) and outdoor shot put (third place) in 2022.
- Only Mountain West athlete to earn both an Athlete of the Week and Freshman of the Week during the same week this season
