Manganello shoots 62, 'Dogs finish third

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's golf team finished third at the Nick Watney Invitational after carding a 27-under 825 at Fort Washington Golf and Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs had a strong third round with a 15-stroke improvement to their score from the first two rounds. The team carded a 15-under 269 on the final 18 holes, chalking the second-lowest round score of the season. Today's round score ranks third in program history.

Senior Matthew Manganello had a career day recording a 9-under 62, tying the program record for lowest round vs. par. Manganello finished the tournament with a team-best 10-under 203, tying his career-low. He finished sixth overall.

Fellow senior Matthew Sutherland recorded a 4-under 67 on the day to help move the Bulldogs up the leaderboard. He totaled a 7-under 206.

Competing as individuals, Mason Benbrook and Jaden Hunter finished their third round at 2-under 211 and even par 213, respectively.

TEAM NOTES

15-under 269 is the second lowest round score of the season, marking the third lowest score in program history.
Fresno State finished within the Top 3 in the first two tournaments of the season.
Matthew Manganello tied the program record lowest round vs. par with a 9-under 62.
Manganello matched his 3-round career-low score with a 10-under 203
Fifth is the highest finish for Maganello this season.
Ryan Firpo finished his Bulldog debut with a third round score of 3-under 210, his best round of the tournament.
Jaden Hunter shot a career-low 3-round score of even par 213.
