Diamond 'Dog rally falls short in extra innings
3/1/2025 7:49:00 PM | Baseball
With the loss, the Diamond 'Dogs drop to 4-6 on the season and the Gauchos advance to 9-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State found themselves in an early 6-0 hole after a tough first inning, where starter Hayden Crews surrendered six runs on six hits, including a pair of doubles.
In the second inning, Bobby Blandford launched a solo home run to put the 'Dogs on the board, sparking life into the Fresno State dugout.
The offense continued to chip away, with Blandford connecting for a second home run in the fourth inning—a two-run shot that capped a three-run rally and cut the deficit to one. Cayden Munster and Jacob Pappas joined the long-ball barrage with a two-run homer and solo shot respectively in the fifth inning, tying the game at 7-7 and erasing the early damage.
Bryce Armstrong delivered four strong frames on the mound in relief for the Bulldogs, allowing just one run while keeping the Gauchos' bats at bay.
The game came down to the bottom of the 10th inning, and after Anderson managed to retire two batters, UCSB's offense rallied with a hit-by-pitch and a double into the gap, scoring the winning run and sending the Gauchos to their ninth win of the season.
NOTES
- Bobby Blandford hit two home runs in game two against the Gauchos, marking his first multiple-home run game of his career.
