ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Fresno State closed out the 2025 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships with a dramatic finish in the women's 4x400 relay, outdueling host New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center. The Bulldogs quartet of Itzia Mejia Garcia, Ceonna Pipion, Janae Heffernan and Jewel Ash grabbed gold with a time of 3:36.22, the fourth-fastest time in conference history.
Mejia Garcia put the Bulldogs in front by more than a second on the lead leg. Searching for the first gold medal in her final race for Fresno State, Pipion provided the 'Dogs with a near three-second lead after the second leg. The Lobos though brought it back under two after the third and overtook Fresno State with a lap to go. Ash had just enough in the tank though, outpacing New Mexico's Rebecca Grieve on the final straight away. It was the Bulldogs' first win indoors in the event since 2016.
Pipion and Ash also walked away from the meet with a bronze medal. Ash began the day for Fresno State placing third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time 8.44. It was just the second medal ever for the Bulldogs in the event since joining the conference.
Pipion followed in the 400 meters, finishing with a time of 52.63. The Bulldog senior was narrowly edged for silver by Grieve (0.05) on time as the two ran in separate heats. Ash added another point to the team's total, placing eighth with a time of 53.95.
Colleen Uzoekwe also added two points for the 'Dogs, taking seventh in the shot put. The senior jumped into scoring position with her final throw, landing a mark of 14.45m/47-5.
Fresno State finished fifth as a team with 51 points. The Bulldogs found the podium five times during the three-day meet.
