3/28/2025 11:30:00 PM | Baseball
The win advances the Bulldogs to 4-3 in Mountain West play and 11-14 overall, while the Spartans are now 16-10 overall and 4-3 in the MW.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs set the tone early, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a two-run home run from Murf Gray. The Spartans answered in the bottom of the frame with a lead-off triple and an RBI to put San Jose State on the board.
Fresno State had a huge five-run fourth inning that was highlighted by base hits from Justin Stransky, Gray and Bobby Blandford. San Jose State chipped away at the Bulldog lead with a pair of doubles in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to 7-3.
The Diamond 'Dogs kept their stride in the seventh inning and scored three more runs on four hits and an error. Fresno State received four free bases in the top of the eighth as batters were walked or hit by pitches to get aboard. Murf Gray hit the lone single of the inning to plate the final two runs of the game.
Reliever Drew Townson kept the Spartans at bay, and Fresno State claimed an early win courtesy of the Mountain West's 10-run mercy rule.
