FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State track and field teams will split up across the Bay Area this week, competing in Berkeley, Stanford and San Francisco at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, Stanford Invitational and Mike Fanelli Track Classic.Â

WEST COASTRELAYS THROWS
At last weekend's West Coast Relays, Cierra Jackson stole the show in the throws, claiming wins in both the discus and the hammer. The senior didn't just win the event but did so with ease. Jackson began the meet in the hammer with a toss of 65.89m/216-2 that moved her from seventh to third all-time at Fresno State. The following day she broke the school record in the discus with a mark of 64.42m/211-4. The result was Jackson earning Mountain West Field Athlete of the Week three days later.
AMONG THE BEST IN 2025
With a pair of marks last weekend that rank in the Top 10 in their events, Cierra Jackson currently holds marks that rank within the Top 26 in the country this year in the discus, hammer and shot put.
MOVING INTO THE TOP 10
Cierra Jackson was not the only Bulldog making moves on the program's Top 10 lists at the West Coast Relays. Harriette Mortlock increased her mark in the javelin to 52.16m/171-1 (No. 3). Victoria Nino jumped to No. 7 in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.29 and the 4x100 relay team of Antoinette Stubbfield, Itzia Mejia Garcia, Janae Heffernan and Jewel Ash tied for the program's ninth-fastest time at 45.83.
FIRST WEEK, FIRST ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Following her first outdoor meet for Fresno State, Jewel Ash was named Mountain West Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. At the Hornet Invitational, Ash recorded the third-fastest times in program history in both the 100-meter hurdles (13.61) and 400-meter hurdles (58.17). The Vorhees, N.J. product also helped the Bulldogs' 4x400 relay team to a win and post the eighth-fastest time in program history at 3:39.02
GOING DEEEEP
For the second time in her career, Cierra Jackson eclipsed the 60-meter mark in the discus, doing so at the Hornet Invitational on March 22. Jackson's first attempt toss of 60.14m/197‑04 won the event and ranks No. 3 in the NCAA in 2025.
4x4 STILL ROLLING
Despite Ceonna Pipion's eligibility being up following the Bulldogs' win in the 4x400 relay at the 2025 Mountain West Indoor Championships, Fresno State's outdoor group which includes Miana Giovannini is still clicking. Alongside Itzia Mejia Garcia, Jenae Heffernan and Jewel Ash, the quartet won their first race of the outdoor season at the Hornet Invitational with the eighth-fastest time in Fresno State's history (3:39.02).
PLAYING IN THE WATER
With Kylie Ward's time of 11:14.86 in the steeplechase at the Hornet Invitational, the sophomore jumped into the program's Top 10 in the event, coming in at No. 6.
STARTING WHERE SHE LEFT OFF
Last year, Cierra Jackson posted NCAA qualifying marks in the shot put, discus and hammer, despite competing in the hammer just twice during the spring. In her first meet of 2025, the Bulldog Invitational, Jackson not only appeared in all three events, but won all three events with marks of 57.28m/187-11 in the discus, 56.63m/185-9 in the hammer and 15.55m/51-0.25 in the shot put.
REDSHIRTS RETURN FOR OUTDOOR
Two of the Bulldogs most decorated athletes over the past three seasons, Cierra Jackson and Madison Hutton, did not compete during the indoor season. The two opted to take redshirt seasons indoors. They have since returned to competition for the 'Dogs for the outdoor season.
IT'S BEEN AWHILE
With Fresno State hosting the Bulldog Invitational at Warmerdam Field on March 8, it marked the first time since 2011 that Fresno State had hosted an entire meet at its on-campus facility.
IN THE RECORD BOOK
Fresno State entered the 2025 season with 11 marks on its Top 10 lists coming from student-athletes on its current roster.
HOSTING THREE IN THE VALLEY
Fresno State will host three meets in the Central Valley this season. The first will be the Bulldog Invitational held at Warmerdam Field on March 8. The end of March will see the West Coast Relays take place March 28-29. The Bulldogs' final tune-up for the Mountain West Championships will be the Fresno State Invitational on May 3.Â

- Jackson's new personal best of 64.42/211-4 puts her No. 12 on the NCAA all-time collegiate list while both of her top two marks in the meet are among the Top 50 throws in NCAA history. This came after entering the weekend with just two throws over 60 meters in her career.
- Jackson's marks rank No. 2 in the discus and No. 4 in the hammer in Mountain West history.
