Bulldogs stumble against Rebels

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis team stumbled against the UNLV Rebels on Sunday afternoon at Spalding G. Wathen, 4-2.Â
How it HappenedÂ
Bulldogs worked in sync to grab the first point of the day. First time partners Sofia Pizzoni and Paulina Montiel wrapped up first, defeating Oyama/ Sokolvak six games to one. Courts one and two were knotted up at five-games. Matilde Magrini and Eliza Dunbar, also fist time partner, clinched the points with a 6-4 win over Vinahradava/Mircheva. Charlotte Gisclon and Klara Vukicevic's match on court two was left unfinished at five-games all.Â
Magrini pushed the Bulldogs lead to 2-0 after defeating Hu on court one. Magrini won in straight sets, holding Hu to one game in the second set, 6-1.Â
Gianna Mastro dropped her match on court six, falling to Vinahradava six games to three in both sets.Â
UNLV swept up the next three matches starting with Gisclon on court two. Zhao defeated Gisclon seven games to five in straight sets. Pizzoni was looking for the get-back after falling in a first set tie breaker, 7-6 (8-6). The junior fell in the second set (6-4) to hand the Rebels their third point.Â
Montiel moved up in the lineup playing at No. 4 for the second time this season. The freshman held the advantage throughout the first set, allowing Mircheva to one game, 6-1. Montiel fought hard in the third set, but it was not enough to grab the point. Montiel managed to grab two games in the last two sets, 6-2.Â
Dunbar secured the first set win, 7-5. The sophomore's match went unfinished at the start of the third, after dropping the second set three games to six.Â
