Bulldogs win big over Sunbirds

FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 13 Fresno State water polo team earned a dominating 27-5 victory over Fresno Pacific on Friday evening, moving to 9-7 overall and 4-1 at home this season.

Fresno State had 12 goal-scorers, led by Georgia Daly with a career-high six goals on seven shots. Charley Stephens added four goals, Hailey Andress, Marley Garwick and Kira Anderson tallied three goals each, Noa Markovsky had two, and Marit van der Kolk, Riaan Bryant, Caitlyn Mossman, Megan Cranley, Ashley Williams and Katya Aleshina each scored one.

Daly's six goals are the second-most in a game by a Bulldog in program history and just one shy of the all-time record.

Fresno State outshot the Sunbirds 40-27 in the contest, and saw goalkeeper Katelyn Mobley tally four saves while Islay Martin-Hill had seven.

The 27 goals ties the Bulldogs' single game program record, and is the second game this season with more than 25.

How it happened
Fresno State got out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Kira Anderson, Megan Cranley and Hailey Andress. The Sunbirds tacked on their first goal of the game on a 6-on-5 play with 5:37 left in the first. From there, the Bulldogs added four more to their score to extend the lead to 7-1. After a Sunbird timeout, they were able to score again but the Bulldogs responded with their eighth goal of the evening. Fresno State added two more in the first to take a 10-2 lead into the second quarter, its largest first quarter lead of the season.

The Bulldogs outscored FPU 5-1 in the second quarter, slowing pace a bit. The Bulldogs had a 15-3 lead at halftime.

Fresno State scored four unanswered out of the half, sparked by a 6-on-5 goal by Georgia Daly. The Sunbirds scored one in the period, but the Bulldogs closed it out with two more scores to make it a 21-4 lead headed into the final period.

FPU struck first in the fourth, but the Bulldogs ended the game with six unanswered goals including a final possession score by Charley Stephens.
