Fresno State drops high-scoring battle at Utah Tech, 17–13
3/19/2026 10:28:00 PM | Baseball
The Bulldogs (7-13) pounded out 12 hits and scored in five different innings, but a pair of big innings from the Trailblazers proved too much to overcome as Utah Tech (14-8) collected 16 hits in the win.
How It Happened
Fresno State jumped on the board immediately as Owen Faust led off the game with a home run to left field. After Utah Tech answered with a solo shot in the bottom half, the Bulldogs put together a strong second inning, scoring three runs highlighted by Marcus Nolen's RBI double and a run-scoring groundout from Faust to take a 4–1 lead.
The momentum quickly shifted in the bottom of the second when Utah Tech erupted for five runs, capped by a three-run homer from Kyle McDaniel. The Trailblazers followed with a six-run third inning to build a 12–4 advantage.
Fresno State responded in the fourth, plating five runs to cut the deficit to 12–9. Ethan Payne delivered a two-RBI single, and Cam Schneider added a two-run hit later in the frame to bring the Bulldogs back within striking distance.
Schneider continued his big night in the sixth inning, launching a three-run home run to pull Fresno State within one at 13–12. The Bulldogs eventually tied the game in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Faust.
However, Utah Tech answered decisively in the bottom of the eighth, scoring four runs, three of them unearned, to reclaim control at 17–13. Fresno State was unable to respond in the ninth.
