Series finale at New Mexico ends in an 18-18 tie
3/29/2026 8:04:00 PM | Baseball
The Bulldogs (8-16-1, 0-5-1 MW) racked up 23 hits and erased multiple deficits, but were unable to secure the win after the game was halted following 11 innings.
How It Happened
Fresno State struck first in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from Marcus Nolen, but New Mexico responded with a five-run bottom half to take early control. The Bulldogs chipped away with a run in the third before erupting for seven runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by Nolen's two-run home run and a string of RBI hits that gave Fresno State a 9–5 lead.
The momentum continued into the fifth as the Bulldogs extended the lead to 11–7, but New Mexico answered right back with a five-run inning of its own, capped by a grand slam from Lenny Ashby Jr. to swing the lead back to the Lobos.
Fresno State refused to go away. The Bulldogs tied the game at 12 in the sixth, then reclaimed the lead with a two-run seventh inning. After falling behind again in the sixth, Fresno continued trading blows, highlighted by a two-run homer from Zach Plasschaert in the eighth to put Fresno back on top, 17–16.
Brady Hewitt gave Fresno State another lead in the ninth with a solo home run, but New Mexico answered in the bottom half to tie the game at 18. Both teams had chances late, including a bases-loaded opportunity for Fresno State in the 10th, but neither side could push across the go-ahead run before the game ended in a tie after 11 innings. Due to Fresno State's travel plans, the game was completed after 11 innings.
