The Bulldogs (10-22-1, 1-10-1 MW) plated four runs in the second inning and added another in the fifth to build a 5-3 advantage, but the Falcons (15-18, 8-4 MW) erupted for six runs in the seventh to take control for good.
How It Happened
Fresno State struck first in the second inning, capitalizing on early command issues from Air Force pitching. Cam Schneider delivered a two-run double to center, and the Bulldogs added two more runs on a balk and a sacrifice fly from Brady Hewitt to take a 4-0 lead.
Air Force responded in the third, taking advantage of defensive miscues to score three unearned runs and cut the deficit to 4-3.
The Bulldogs added a run in the fifth when Sky Collins drove in Griffen Sotomayor with a double, pushing the lead to 5-3.
That advantage held until the seventh, when the Falcons broke the game open. A three-run home run from Walker Zapp gave Air Force its first lead, and the Falcons continued to pile on with three more runs in the inning to make it 9-5.
Air Force added an insurance run in the eighth, while Fresno State was held scoreless over the final four innings.
