2023 (SENIOR*): Second team All-Mountain West linebacker … started all 13 games … totaled 82 tackles (46 solo) … added 5.0 TFL, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, three interceptions and five pass breakups … had a career-high 11 tackles against Nevada (Sept. 30) … his three interceptions this season were the most he’s had in his career, the third-most in the Mountain West this season and the second-most on the team … was in the Top 25 in the Mountain West in total tackles … he was responsible for the game-winning defensive play in three different games this season – PBU at Purdue, interception in double overtime against Eastern Washington and an interception in the final seconds against UNLV … had at least three tackles in each game this season … was named the Isleta New Mexico Bowl Defensive MVP with eight tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one sack in the win against New Mexico State … was named the MW Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts at Purdue (Week 1) … voted a defensive team captain by his teammates … preseason recognitions included: Polynesian College Football Player of the Year watch list, Bednarik Award watch list, Wuerffel Trophy watch list, Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list, Shrine Bowl 1000, AllState Good Works Team, Phil Steele first team All-MW, and Athlon Sports second team All-MW … received invitations to the Hula Bowl and the East-West Shrine Bowl ... 2022 (SENIOR): All-Mountain West honorable mention linebacker … selected as a fourth team All-MW linebacker by Phil Steele … started all 14 games for the Bulldogs … was Fresno State’s leading tackler with 88 stops (54 solo), a single-season career best for the fourth-year Bulldog … led the team in tackles in six games, the most by any player this season … added 5.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and seven broken up passes … had two double-digit tackle performances this season, his first against Oregon State (Sept. 10) and again at UConn (Oct. 1) … 10 tackles are a career-high … had a season-high 2.0 tackles for loss at New Mexico (Oct. 22) … averaged 6.29 tackles per game … 88 total tackles were the 11th most by any player in the MW this season … ranked in the Top 15 among all tacklers in the Mountain West this season (tackles per game) … selected as a team captain in four games this season … was a preseason second team All-Mountain West linebacker (Phil Steele) … was a third team All-Mountain West linebacker (Athlon Sports) ... 2021 (JUNIOR): All-Mountain West honorable mention linebacker … started in 12 of 13 games played this season … finished third on the team in tackles as he totaled 56 stops (33 solo), for a new single-season career-best … also added a single-season career-best 8.0 TFL to lead all Bulldog linebackers in the stat .. led his position group in sacks (3.5), interceptions (2) and broken up passes (6) - single-season career-best numbers in all categories … had a career-high eight tackles at then-No. 11 Oregon (Sept. 4) … had at least one tackle in every game on the year … had a career-high 3.0 tackles for loss at Hawai’i (Oct. 2) … recorded his first interception since 2019 against Cal Poly, and returned it 22 yards for a career-best return … added his second interception of the year at then-No. 21 San Diego State (Oct. 30) … had a forced fumble against UTEP in the PUBG Mobile New Mexico Bowl (Dec. 18), the second of his career … also recovered a fumble in the bowl game … part of a Bulldog defense who only allowed 20.5 points per game this season, while also holding two opponents scoreless. It was the first time since 2017 that a Fresno State team had multiple shutouts in a season … helped Fresno State to two wins over ranked opponents, both on the road. It was the first time Fresno State defeated two Top 25 opponents in a season for the first time since 2004, and the first time both wins came on the road in the 100 year history of the program.
2020 (SOPHOMORE): All-Mountain West honorable mention linebacker … got starts in five of six games played … finished the season with 21 tackles (14 solo) … also added 1.0 TFL, one forced fumble, one quarterback hurry and two broken up passes … had his first career forced fumble at Nevada (Dec. 5) … had a season-best seven tackles against The Pack … was the team’s Co-Defensive Skill Player of the Game versus Colorado State ... named to the Fall Academic All-Mountain West team.
2019 (FRESHMAN): Played in all 12 games on the year, recorded five starts … picked up 30 tackles - 13 solo stops … had 6.0 TFL and one sack on the year … his 6.0 TFL is the most by a Bulldog freshman since Ben Jacobs had the same in 2007 … had a fumble recovery and an interception versus UNLV … had a season-high seven tackles twice - versus Minnesota and at New Mexico State … 2019 Fall Academic All-MW selection.
HIGH SCHOOL: Was a standout member of the Burbank High School football and basketball teams, earning first team All-City honors in both sports … compiled 81 total tackles in 2018 … 7.0 tackles for loss as a senior … had one blocked punt and one caused fumble that season … added four quarterback hurries and five six interceptions … was a second team All-State honoree … player of the year.
PERSONAL: Born in Sacramento, Calif. … son of Lester Bailey and Diana Tapa … has six older siblings - Jeilani, Mariah, Tyler, Kiana, Sam and Tre … was also recruited by Nevada, UNLV, San Diego State, UC Davis, Idaho, Idaho State, Montana State, Sacramento State and Northern Arizona … chose to attend Fresno State because it put emphasis on becoming a better man … is a kinesiology major.
