Fresno State welcomed back Richard Helepiko to the Bulldog football program in 2014 as an offensive graduate assistant coach, he is entering his second season in the same capacity. The former offensive lineman was a four-year letterwinner at Fresno State from 2009-2012.
Helepiko will assist in game preparation, film breakdown, scouting and practice plans while working specifically with the offensive line.
Helepiko was an honorable mention All-Mountain West selection in 2012 playing under offensive line coach Cameron Norcross at Fresno State, who he now works alongside with. Helepiko started in all 13 games in 2012 - seven at right guard and five at center - helping the Bulldogs rank 12th nationally in passing, 16th in total offense and 17th in scoring.
During his career, in which he made 23 starts on the offensive line, Helepiko blocked for running back Robbie Rouse who is the school's all-time leading rusher. Additionally he was a starter on the offensive line for quarterback Derek Carr, the school's all-time leading passer, for two of Carr's three seasons at Fresno State and his pass protection also helped wide receiver Davante Adams garner 2012 Mountain West Freshman of the Year and All-America accolades when he ranked No. 3 nationally in TD receptions and eighth in total catches.
Helepiko prepped at Moreno Valley [Calif.] High School and graduated from Fresno State with a degree in criminology corrections.
After graduating from Fresno State, he spent one season as the offensive line coach at Hoover High School in Fresno.
