Buckman is a highly accomplished athletic trainer and performance medicine professional with more than 30 years of experience delivering elite-level sports medicine, rehabilitation, and human performance services across collegiate athletics, professional sports, military special operations, and performing arts organizations. Throughout his career, he has remained committed to an athlete-centered philosophy that integrates evidence-based care, performance optimization, injury prevention, and long-term wellness.
Before arriving at Fresno State, he served as Head Football Athletic Trainer at Bucknell University, providing leadership for NCAA Division I sports medicine operations while advancing collaborative approaches between sports medicine and strength and conditioning programs. His diverse career includes leadership positions with Barry University, MARFORSOC (Marine Forces Special Operations Command), the University of South Carolina Beaufort, the Cleveland Browns, Stanford University, the University of Louisville, and Cirque du Soleil, where he supported world-class performers in uniquely demanding environments.
His expertise spans orthopedic rehabilitation, performance medicine, return-to-play strategies, emergency care, movement assessment, and interdisciplinary healthcare integration. He has led the development of innovative programs focused on injury prevention, athlete wellness, cardiac screening, mental health integration, vision enhancement, and objective rehabilitation outcomes. His experience within military special operations further expanded his work in human performance, resilience, and operational readiness.
A certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), and Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), Buckman holds a Master of Science in Kinesiology and Health Promotions from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor of Arts in Athletic Training and Exercise Sciences from Purdue University. He continues to contribute to the advancement of sports medicine through mentorship, education, and collaborative performance healthcare initiatives.
