TUCSON, Ariz. - Despite an outstanding performance from Lindsay Logan, Fresno State was not able to overcome 21 turnovers and 38 percent shooting and lost 83-73 to Bowling Green in the Arizona Basketball Classic at the McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz. The victory improves BGSU's record to 3-5 while the Bulldogs fall to 2-4.
Logan was simply fabulous, scoring a season-high 27 points, dishing out six assists, picking up four rebounds and making three steals. The 27 points is the second-most in her career to the 33 she scored against TCU on Jan. 20, 2000. The sophomore was 10-of-28 from the floor, setting a Fresno State record for most shots attempted in a game. Logan was also 5-of-16 from three-point territory, establishing a program record for most threes attempted in a single game.
Unfortunately for FS, it wasn't enough. For the third consecutive game, Fresno State came out of the gates slowly. Bowling Green took a 30-11 lead with 7:22 remaining in the first half before the Bulldogs got things going. Logan kept Fresno State afloat in the first half, scoring 13 points to bring FS within 10 halftime. It marked the second consecutive game Fresno State has allowed 40+ points in the first half.
The Bulldogs were able to make it close in the second half. They pulled within three points, 64-61, with 7:55 remaining. But after an FS timeout, Bowling Green scored five consecutive points to build the lead back to eight. Fresno State eventually got the deficit down to 71-66 with 3:48 to go after a Mindy Clark rebound and basket, but the Bulldogs couldn't make their shots down the stretch, and the Falcons pulled away, eventually winning by 10.
BGSU lived up to its reputation as a strong three-point shooting team, sinking 9-of-14 attempts from beyond the arc. The Falcons shot 53 percent in the game, allowing them to overcome their 23 turnovers.
In addition to Logan, Tiffany Simon also had a strong game for Fresno State. The sophomore guard scored a career-high 17 points on 7-of-16 shooting. She also added six rebounds and two steals. However, no other Bulldog was able to score in double figures.
For Bowling Green, Kim Griech and Dana Western each had a career-high 17 points. The two combined to shoot 8-of-11 from three-point range. Karen Stocz also added a career-high 11 while Pam Brown tied her career-high with 12 rebounds. The Falcons were able to overcome the absence of their two top leading scorers -- Francine Miller and Angie Farmer -- who were out with injuries.
Up next for Fresno State are the host Arizona Wildcats on Sunday at 4 p.m. MST. UA defeated Bowling Green in the opening game of the Arizona Basketball Classic 99-43.
