No. 16 Wrestling Edges No. 18 Boise State 21-19

FRESNO, Calif. - The 16th ranked Bulldogs took it to the wire in a 21-19 win over No. 18 Boise State. The two teams split ten matches, but Fresno State racked up crucial points with a major decision and technical fall by Mike Mellor and Stephen Abas, respectively.
The 'Dogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead as Mellor beat Boise State's Jon Terry 15-4 at 174 pounds. Fresno State picked up another six points with a Bronco forfeit in the 184 division. Boise State won its first match at 197 pounds with an 18-4 major decision from No. 5 Rusty Cook over Tom Gohde.
Fresno State won two more as No. 3 Billy Blunt decisioned Bart Johnson 4-3 in the heavyweight division and Stephen Abas teched No. 15 Ben Vombaur in the 125 division. The 'Dogs lost the next four in a row and came devastatingly close to an upset as the Broncos led 19-18 going into the last match.
Fresno State's Eddie Gifford dominated over Boise State's Casey Eager, winning an 11-4 decision and boosting the Bulldogs to a 21-19 victory. The 'Dogs improve to 11-6 on the season whole the Broncos fall to 7-3.
Fresno State will travel to Wyoming and Air Force Saturday, February 17 for its last dual meets of the season.
