Five Bulldogs Advance to the NCAA Wrestling Championships

FRESNO, Calif. - For the second year in a row Northern Iowa has taken the NCAA West Regionals, this year with a score of 126. The Panthers also stole nine of the 21 bids given to the NCAA Championships. Northern Iowa had seven wrestlers win their respected divisions and two more will advance with wild card bids.
Fresno State placed third with 53 points only six points behind second place Air Force. Three Bulldogs took third place in their respected divisions while four placed second.
Five of the ten Bulldogs will advance to the NCAA Championships on wild card bids. Senior Eddie Gifford (174),senior Ben Baca (165), junior Jim Medeiors (157), junior Casey Olson (141), and sophomore Marcio Botelho (184).
There were 21 bids to given to the West Regionals to advance to the NCAA Championships. The eleven wild card were voted on by the five participating coaches.
