‘Dogs sit in third after second round of St. Mary’s Invitational

Fresno State will tee off in the final paring of Wednesday’s final round
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – After racing out to the lead in the first round, the Fresno State men's golf team dropped to third place following Tuesday's second round at the Saint Mary's Invitational at Poppy Hills Golf Course. The 'Dogs await Wednesday's final round nine shots back from San Diego State.
While the Bulldogs posted a 14-over-par 298 to follow their first round 6-over-par 290, the Aztecs led the 14-team field on the second day with a 4-under-par 280 to jump into the lead.
Justin Avery leads Fresno State, individually. The junior is tied for fourth place overall. He fired a 2-over-par 73 and is 2-over-par after the first 36 holes. Avery is seven shots back from Eduardo Carrete (St. Marys), who is leading the 84-man field at 5-under-par.
Alex Lee is tied for 12th. The sophomore carded a 3-over-par 74 on Tuesday. He is 4-over overall.
Trevor Clayton and Greg Gildea share a tie for 21st. The pair are 7-over-par (149) after two rounds.
Russell Takeuchi is tied for 61st after posting an 8-over-par 79.
The final round will get underway with tee times off of holes No. 1 and No. 10. Fresno State's first tee time is Takeuchi at 9:20 a.m., and the last being Avery at 10 a.m. All five Bulldogs will start from the No. 1 tee box.
