Three Bulldogs posted double figures, with two registering double-digits for the first time in their careers.
FRESNO, Calif. – Led by three Bulldogs who posted double figures, Fresno State opened the 2016-17 season with a 71-50 win over Biola University on Friday night. Redshirt sophomore Tory Jacobs led all scorers with 16 points.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 9-3 lead, with all nine points coming from sophomore Candice White, and never looked. Fresno State pushed its lead 10 midway through the opening quarter and pushed its advantage to 18 at the half behind the hot shooting of Jacobs. The transfer was 5-of-7 from the field and 3-of-4 from 3-point range in the opening half to lead all scorers with 13.
Four minutes into the second half, Biola chipped into the Bulldogs' lead with an 8-3 run, but Fresno State went on a 14-8 stretch to close the quarter. Holding a 20-point advantage heading into the fourth, both team's struggled to from field. Fresno state managed 18.8 percent from the floor in the final 10 minutes, but held a 12-11 edge in the quarter.
How It Happened: Leading by nine with under four minutes remaining in the second quarter, Emilie Volk and Tory Jacobs knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers as the Bulldogs closed the half on an 11-2 run.

Jaime White, Fresno State Head Coach
On the team's ability to answer runs…
"As a coach you want things to be perfect, but they're not going to be perfect. I do believe that this team was able to answer every time they needed to, and that's really important. As much as we let them go on a run at the end, we were able to step up and stop them."
On the shooting of the guards…
"One of the nice things is that the entire guard line can knock it down. That's nice because of the zone. We struggled with the zone last year when we were faced with having to score outside. I feel confident in everybody as long as we're moving the ball and getting a little window, I think everybody can knock it down."
Tory Jacobs, redshirt sophomore guard
On the waiting process to play after sitting out the 2015-16 season…
"I've been waiting for a whole year for that; since the summer, since last year, since I made the decision to come to Fresno State, I've been waiting to play."
Candice White, sophomore guard
On her teammates going into this season…
"I think it's nice having the teammates that I do. Playing alongside Tory, she's coming from a bigger conference and she has that IQ and experience under her belt even though she didn't play last year. Also, the other guards on the team, we have a good IQ—when to make that extra pass and when not to. Bego does well in having the defenders double down on her and she makes kick outs and we're able to shoot easy, open 3's."
