RENO, Nev.- The Fresno State women's soccer team dropped its Mountain West opener 1-0 to Nevada on Friday night at Mackay Stadium in Reno, Nev.
"I think that it was a lesson learned about how these conference games are all going to be an absolute grind," Fresno State head coach Brian Zwaschka said. "You can't relax for a second. As soon as you do, you get punished. But we know that we have 10 conference matches left, so we need to regroup and do the right things on Sunday. We need to focus on our game plan, but be alert and adaptable."
Nevada (4-4, 1-0 MW) came out attacking from the start, but didn't place one in the net until the 43rd minute. The 'Dogs (5-4, 0-1 MW) tied their season-high with 18 shots in the game, but couldn't put one past Nevada senior goalkeeper Kelsey Quintos, who became the Wolf Pack's all-time leader in shutouts (12).
"We didn't get the real clean hits that we've been working on and have had some success with," Zwaschka added. "We fell into the trap of rushing things when we had good opportunities."
Fresno State junior forward Myra Delgadillo set a career-high with seven shots in the game, but only two of them were on-goal, while freshman forward Julia Glaser added four shots of her own, one on-goal.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Alex Best, last week's MW Defensive Player of the Week, played all game for the Bulldogs and recorded five saves.
Fresno State now heads to UNLV, who lost to San Jose State 2-1 on Friday night. The match will air live on the Mountain West Network.
