LAS VEGAS – The Fresno State women's soccer team fell to UNLV 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas at Peter Johann Field. Junior forward Myra Delgadillo put the Bulldogs on the board in the 80th minute with her fifth goal of the season, while senior midfielder Alyssa Holsworth was credited with her second assist of the year.
Â
"We kept creating chances, but we couldn't capitalize on them," Fresno State head coach Brian Zwaschka said. "We have to credit their goalkeeper for making two huge point-blank saves that would have kept us in the game. We're threatening and dangerous, we just need to make sure we finish and the right things will come."
Â
The 'Dogs (5-5, 0-2 MW) couldn't keep up with the Mountain West's best offense, as UNLV (8-3, 1-1 MW) owned advantages in shots (21-12) and shots on goal (6-5). Notably, Fresno State was called for 13 fouls, more than double that of the Rebels (6), and allowed two penalty kicks to find the back of the net.
Â
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Alex Best started the game for the Bulldogs, but after allowing three goals in the first half, was replaced by sophomore Marie Berwinkel-Kottmann. Berwinkel-Kottmann held the Rebels scoreless until a penalty kick made it by her with two seconds remaining in the game.
Â
Delgadillo and junior Peyton Cline each had three shots in the match, while freshman Sydni Lunt and sophomore Alyssa Nishikawa added two each.
Â
The Bulldogs return home on Friday to face rival San Diego State at 7 p.m. PT at the Fresno State Soccer and Lacrosse Field and host New Mexico on Sunday at noon.
Â
On Friday, Fresno State Athletics welcomes the Red Wave to Pack the Pitch, while kids can enjoy a bounce house and mini soccer field throughout the game, and all fans have a chance to win a variety of prizes.
