Bulldogs tame Tigers, 81-70

Freshman Bree Delaney scores a career-high 28 points in the victory.
FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State welcomed Pacific to the Save Mart Center on Thursday night in its first home game since Nov. 19. The Bulldogs used a dominant third quarter to surge past the Tigers 81-70 as  Bree Delaney turned in a season-high 28 points to lead the way, the most by a freshman during the last decade.
Fellow freshman Maddi Utti added her second double-double in the last four games with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and junior guard Candice White dropped in 18 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State came out and took an early 6-3 lead over Pacific. Despite shooting just 26 percent from the field in the opening quarter and the Tigers shooting at a 40-percent clip, the Bulldogs were able to force six turnovers and take a 17-14 lead into the second.

Both squads shot the ball well in the second quarter with the Tigers shooting 53 percent as a team, finishing 14-of-30 from the floor in the half. Bree Delaney caught fire for the 'Dogs as she drained three from beyond the arc. The freshman tallied 15 points and led all scorers as Fresno State took a 42-35 advantage into the locker room.

The Bulldogs' shooting touch picked up in the third quarter as they shot 10-of-16 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Candice White found her groove on offense as she poured in 10 points during the period. The 'Dogs also got it done on the defensive end as they limited Pacific to 5-of-16 shooting as they opened up a 76-59 lead heading into the fourth.

The Tigers outscored Fresno State 24-13 in the final quarter as the Bulldogs went into cruise control. The 'Dogs would go on to win 81-70 in their return to the Save Mart Center. Bree Delaney finished with a career-high 28 points.
