FRESNO, Calif. - Exploding for a season-high 10 runs on Tuesday evening, the Fresno State baseball team scored in four of eight innings to win their second straight contest defeating Pacific 10-4 at Pete Beiden Field and Bob Bennett Stadium.
Fresno State (4-4) had their third game of the season with double-digit hits as nine different Bulldogs had a hit, including a pair with two in seniors Austin Guibor and Jesse Medrano. Four of the 'Dogs 11 hits went for extra-bases, including a bases-clearing double by senior Jake Stone in the sixth inning that extended his hitting streak to 20 games dating back to the final 12 games of 2016.
Stone tied his career-high with four RBIs, while Guibor had a pair of RBIs for his team-leading third multi-RBI game, and Medrano set a new career-high with three runs scored.Â
On the mound, freshman Davis Moore picked up his first career win as a 'Dog tossing three innings allowing one hit and added three strikeouts. Six different Bulldog pitchers appeared in the game as sophomore Edgar Gonzalez earned his first career save working a scoreless ninth striking out the side.
After Moore started off the top of the first retiring the side in order, Guibor hit his second career leadoff home run with a shot to right field. Making his collegiate debut on the mound for Pacific was left-hander Kyle Ostrowski as Guibor lifted the Tigers' second career collegiate pitch over the fence.Â
The Bulldogs made the score 4-0 in the second inning with three hits getting RBIs from Korby Batesole, Ryan Dobson and Guibor. Pacific (4-3) answered back with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth off Fred Schlichtholz cutting the 'Dogs lead in half before Stone's bases-clearing double in the sixth extended the home team's lead to 7-2.
The Tigers added a pair of two-out solo home runs in the eighth to make it a 7-4 contest, but Fresno State answered back in the bottom half of the inning with its third three-run inning of the game getting RBIs from Stone, Jared Akins and Torin Goldstein to make the final score 10-4.
