Men’s golf tees off The Goodwin on Thursday

The men’s golf team resumes play starting at 12:15 p.m. on Friday
STANFORD, Calif. – Greg Gildea and Trevor Clayton carded opening round Bulldog-low scores of 3-over-par 73 on Thursday at The Goodwin, hosted at Stanford Golf Course. The team is in 20th place after the first round.
Against the largest field Fresno State will face this season, 24 teams and 126 individuals, Gildea and Clayton are tied for 47th individually after 18 holes.
Host, No. 12 Stanford, leads the 24-team field at 4-under-par 276, and are seven strokes better than the next best score held by No. 36 Washington.
Gildea holed one of six eagles on the 539-yard, par-5 No. 7, which led the junior to match Clayton's 73. Clayton posted the most consistent round that featured a tournament-best 15 pars.
Justin Avery carded a 5-over-par 75, Alex Lee posted a 7-over-par 77 and Cody Neal recorded an 11-over-par 81. They are in T-63rd, T-89th and T-115th, respectively.
Neal will start Fresno State's second round at 12:15 p.m., while Clayton will be last off the tee at 12:59 p.m. for the Bulldogs. The field is so large that 12 teams will get started in the morning, while the 'Dogs and 11 others will get going in the afternoon.
