Mustangs down 'Dogs 3-1 in exhibition match

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's soccer team dropped its exhibition match against Cal Poly 3-1 on Sunday night at Alex G. Spanos Stadium in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The Bulldogs' lone goal was scored by senior midfielder Peyton Cline.
Goalkeepers Marie Berwinkel-Kottman and Nicole Theroux split time in the box during the contest. They recorded one save each. The Bulldog defense held the Mustangs scoreless for the first thirty minutes and last thirty minutes of the contest.
Cal Poly struck first when Stephanie Magellan scored an 18-foot goal from the left side of the field to put the Mustangs up 1-0 with nine minutes left in the first half.
Cline opened up scoring in the second half when she shot the ball over the goalies head to put the Bulldogs on the board and tie the game 1-1 with 39 minutes left in the match.
McKenzie Flood retaliated to put the Mustangs up 2-1 when she found the back of the net with 36 minutes left in the contest.
Cal Poly locked in the victory when Megan Abutin scored on a corner kick with 4:15 minutes left in the match.
Looking at the stats, Fresno State led in shots (12-11) and corner kicks (4-3). Cal Poly owned the advantage in saves (7-2).
What's next?
The Bulldogs will go back on the road to face Pacific on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. PT.
Fresno State will return home to host Cal State Fullerton in its 2017 home opener at 12 p.m. PT in the Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.
