'Dogs head to the coast for first road matches of the season

SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. – The Fresno State men's tennis team will put its 6-0 record to the test with its first road matches of the season. The Bulldogs will face UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 12 p.m. PT and Cal Poly on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. PT.
"We have 11 straight matches on the road starting Saturday," Said head coach Luke Shields. " We had a great week of practice and we are excited to compete this weekend. Cal Poly and UCSBÂ are strong programs and the top two teams in the Big West, we look forward to the competition."Â

QUICK LOOK AT THE 'DOGS
Fresno State is 6-0 this season, this week will be its first road trip of the season.
The Bulldogs 6-0 start to the season is the best in over 20 years.
Last week – Fresno State recorded a 2-0 week with wins over Sonoma State and Holy Names.
The Bulldogs defeated the Seawolves 6-1 on Sunday, Jan. 28. Fresno State swept doubles to win the doubles point. Sonoma State Cagatay Soke put the Bulldogs up 2-0 when he defeated his opponent No. 2. Sonoma State put its first dent in the scoreboard when Bailey Gong fell at the No. 6 position in straight sets. Fresno State went up 3-1 when Xander Veys took the win at No. 1.The match was clinched on court #4, when Cem Erturk bested his opponent 6-2, 6-1.
Fresno State defeated Holy Names 6-1 on Sunday, Jan. 28. Holy Names took the doubles point. The Bulldogs tied the match when Hassan defeated his opponent at No. 5. Fresno State took a 2-1 lead when Soke bested his opponent at No. 2. At the No. 6 position, Gong defeated his opponent in straight sets to put the 'Dogs up 3-1. Erturk clinched another match for his team when he defeated his opponent 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 4 position.
Fresno State shines in singles play – Fresno State has only lost two singles matches this season. The Bulldogs went 30-2 through its first six matches.
Erturk leads the team with a 5-0 singles record. Bugailiskis, Soke and Osorio have botch recorded 4-0 records. Moser and Hassan have notched 3-0 singles records. Derkas is also undefeated in singles this season with a 2-0 record.

SCOUTING THE GAUCHOS
UC Santa Barbara is 1-1 on the season.
Last week – UC Santa Barbara put up a 1-1 week, with a win over SMU and a loss against No. 5 USC.
The Gauchos blanked SMU 4-0 in a neutral sit match. They fell to No. 5 USC 6-1 on the road. UC Santa Barbara's point came from freshman Victor Krustev defeated his opponent 6-3, 7-6 (3).
The Gauchos have am ITA ranked singles player and ranked doubles team on their roster. Nicolas Moreno de Alboran is ranked No. 42. Moreno de Alboran and his partner Anders Holm are ranked No. 44.
Looking back – The last time the two squads met, the Gauchos defeated the Bulldogs 6-1 (2017— Fresno, Calif.).
UC Santa Barbara has won the last two matches between the teams, the last time Fresno State defeated UC Santa Barbara was in 2015.
Fresno State owns the all-time series against UC Santa Barbara 20-6.

Cal Poly is 3-1 on the season.
Last week – The Mustangs had a 1-1 week, with a win over Georgia State and a loss against No. 7 Texas A&M.
Cal Poly defeated Georgia State 4-1, winning the doubles point and only dropping one single match. The Mustangs were blanked in a 4-0 loss to No. 7 Texas A&M later that day.
Looking back — The last time the two teams met, Cal Poly defeated Fresno state 4-3 (2017 – Fresno, Calif.).
Cal Poly has won the last four matches between the teams, the last time Fresno State defeated Cal Poly was in 2014.
The Bulldogs own the all-time series against the Mustangs 18-10.
