Diamond 'Dogs look to extend winning streak hosting CSUN Tuesday for Ag Fest Night

Winners of six straight games, the Diamond 'Dogs look to extend their winning streak on Tuesday night opening a five-game homestand against Big West foe CSUN at Bob Bennett Stadium for Ag Fest Night.
FRESNO, Calif. - Winners of six straight games, the Diamond 'Dogs look to extend their winning streak on Tuesday night opening a five-game homestand against Big West foe CSUN at Bob Bennett Stadium for Ag Fest Night.
• After completing their first-ever series sweep at New Mexico over the weekend, the Diamond 'Dogs take a six-game winning streak into Tuesday night's game against CSUN.
• The Bulldogs contest with the Matadors is the start of a five-game homestand that will see the 'Dogs host San Jose State starting Friday and host Saint Mary's next Tuesday.
• The 'Dogs completed a perfect 4-0 road trip defeating San Francisco, 9-1 on April 4 before combining to score 33 runs against the Lobos to complete a three-game series sweep.
• This will be the first meeting between Fresno State and CSUN since May 5, 2015 when the 'Dogs won a 4-3 contest in 16 innings at Bob Bennett Stadium.
• Head coach Mike Batesole, who was the head coach at CSUN from 1996-2002, will see his former team for the sixth time and is 4-1 in five meetings.
• The 'Dogs currently lead the Mountain West in sacrifice bunts (26) while ranking second in home runs (32) and third in slugging percentage (.447).
• Freshman southpaw Jaime Arias leads the MW in opposing batting average (.157), earned runs allowed (6), hits allowed (21) and walks allowed (5).

A look at the CSUN Matadors
CSUN enters the first of three meetings with the Bulldogs this season with a 15-16 overall record in 2018 and a 4-2 mark in Big West action after winning two of three at UC Riverside over the weekend.
The Matadors, who are 5-10 on the road in 2018 and were selected fifth in the Big West preseason poll, come into Tuesday's game with a .290 average from the dish as a team to rank second in the Big West while CSUN leads the league in scoring at 6.9 runs per game. CSUN scored 52 of its 215 runs this season, or  24.2 percent, in two wins over Manhattan in February.
CSUN also leads the Big West in doubles(60), hits (319), home runs (47), runs (215) & slugging percentage (.485) and is led by the bat of junior Trevor Casanova who ranks second in the league with a .379 average from the dish and has a team-high 14 doubles & 47 hits. Senior catcher Albee Weiss ranks 4th in the nation with 13 home runs and is sixth with 40 RBIs.
On the mound, the Matadors have a staff ERA of 5.12, eighth in the Big West, while allowing 5.7 runs per game with a 2.48 strikeout-to-walk ratio collecting 228 strikeouts while issuing 92 walks and are holding opponents to a .292 average. Senior right-hander Andrew Weston will get the start on the mound for CSUN and enters Tuesday with a 7.36 ERA in 3.2 innings and a pair of strikeouts.
Ashford on a 33-game on-base streak
Junior outfielder Zach Ashford has reached base in all 29 games he has played in this season and has reached base in 33 straight games dating back to 2017. He is currently sixth in the Mountain West with a .370 average from the plate and leads the team with 44 hits and five stolen bases.
'Dogs streaking
After completing its first-ever three-game series sweep at New Mexico over the weekend, the 'Dogs are currently riding a six-game winning streak for its longest winning streak since opening the 2016 season with 11 straight wins.
Diamond 'Dogs offense coming alive
Over the last nine games, the 'Dogs are hitting .336 from the plate as a team scoring 92 runs and totaling 118 hits with 40 (24 doubles, one triple and 15 home runs) going for extra-bases.
Six Bulldogs have double-digit hits over that stretch led by 14 each from Nolan Dempsey, JT Arruda and Carter Bins. Jeremiah Burks and Ashford each have 13 while Torin Goldstein has 12 of his 15 on the season in that stretch.
Goldstein named Fresno State Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week
After seeing limited action to start the season, Goldstein has started to become a regular in the lineup over the last 10 games and delivered with a standout week from the plate helping the Diamond 'Dogs win four straight road games, including a three-game sweep at New Mexico, leading the team with a .692 average from the plate.
Entering the week with only six hits on the season in 28 at-bats, Goldstein went 9-for-13 on the week and drove in five RBIs and scored a run. He matched his career-high with three hits apiece on Saturday and Sunday combining to go 6-for-8 in the pair of games.
Ten-year anniversary of the 2008 National Championship Team
This Sunday, Fesno State Athletics will honor the 2008 National Championship Wonderdogs prior to the Bulldogs' game vs. San Jose State as we encourage fans to help come out and honor one of Fresno State Athletics greatest team accomplishments in school history.
The first No. 4 regional seed ever to advance to the College World Series, the 'Dogs proved all the doubters wrong and upset a talented field and came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Georgia Bulldogs in the final two games of the championship series for the title.
