Sophomore class accounts for 44 of team’s 95 points.
SARONNO, Italy – On a hot, humid night in Saronno, Fresno State turned a 17-point halftime lead into a 50-point rout over Serbian side KZKK Radnicki, 95-45, in Game One of its European Tour. The Bulldogs' sophomore quartet each reached double figures which included an all-around effort from Genna Ogier who posted 11 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block.
Â
The Australian forward was joined in double figures by fellow post player Maddi Utti who had a team-high 12 points to go with nine rebounds. Bree Delaney also scored 11 points and Aly Gamez chipped in nine. Four other Bulldogs just missed double figures with Jordanna Porter and Saraya Smith at nine while Kristina Cavey and Candice White each had eight.
Â
How It Happened
Leading by just three points after the opening quarter, Fresno State took its first double-digit lead midway through the second quarter and led by 17 at the half. The Bulldogs came out of halftime on fire, quickly putting the game out of reach with an 18-4 run.
Â
The 'Dogs led by 26 points after three quarters behind a plus-19-point advantage in the third that saw Utti provide six points, Delaney with five, and both Gamez and Raven Johnson with four.
Â
Quotables
Head Coach Jaime White on the European Tour opener…
"I thought we started off well. Aly (Gamez) came out and hit two 3's. That was nice. Genna (Ogier) played tough early. Our press played really good so I think that surprised them a little. They called a quick timeout. I think under hard conditions, it was really warm in the gym, our players came out ready to play, and I thought for the most part we continued to play well the whole game."
Â
On the play of Genna Ogier and Maddi Utti inside…
"Genna (Ogier) had a great game. Maddi (Utti) we know she's capable. We knew that can happen. They both played well, especially with the bigger key so they were able to face and put the ball on the ground. I thought Genna really rebounded solid tonight and got some nice put backs."
Â
