Fresno State defeats Air Force, Holy Names

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's tennis team finished its doubleheader on Sunday with two wins. The Bulldogs notched their first Mountain West victory with a 4-3 win over Air Force, followed by a 7-0 win over Holy Names.
Fresno State won its fourth straight match to improve to 4-1 (1-0 MW) on the season.
"Air Force came out with great energy and enthusiasm," head coach Luke Shields. "We battled through some nerves and found a way to get through the match after starting slow in doubles and early in singles. I was impressed with how Air Force competed. We have to get more intense and way more enthusiastic to compete at the level we want. We have some big matches next week at home and will need amplify our intensity level in order to keep our undefeated home record that we've had the last two years."

vs. Air Force – Fresno State sported a new doubles lineup with Mantas Bugailiskis and Angus Bradshaw at the No. 1 position, Cem Erturk and Zdenek Derkas at the No. 2 position with Patrik Pech and Jeremy Moser at the No. 3 position.
The Falcons took the win at the No. 1 position 6-4. Erturk and Derkas defeated their opponents at the No. 2 position 6-4. The doubles point came down to the No. 3 position. Moser and Pech fell to Air Force in a tiebreaker.
The Falcons took a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Derkas gave the Bulldogs their first point of the match after his opponent retired at the No. 1 position. Fresno State took a 2-1 lead when Bradshaw bested his opponent 6-3, 6-1. The Bulldogs made it three points in a row when Bugailiskis defeated his opponent at the No. 4 position 6-1, 7-6.
Air Force took the win at the No. 5 position in three sets 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 to make it 3-2. Erturk clinched the match at the No. 6 when he bested his opponent 7-5, 7-5. Air Force notched one more point at the No. 2 position, when Henrique Osorio fell 4-6, 6-2, 7-6.
vs. Holy Names – The Bulldogs had Bugailiskis and Bradshaw at the No. 1 position, Erturk and Derkas at the No. 2 position with Bailey Gong and Moser at the No. 3 position. Fresno State swept doubles to win the doubles point, and take a 1-0 lead into singles.
Fresno State also swept the singles matches to shutout the Hawks 7-0.
